A brief description of how the literacy assessment was developed and/or when it was adopted:
The Sustainability Culture Assessment was created through the collaboration of the Office of Sustainability, faculty on campus, and the Office of Institutional Research to ask about students' awareness, opinions, and views of sustainability on our campus.
A brief description of how a representative sample was reached (if applicable) and how the assessment(s) were administered :
Both the Sustainability Culture and Literacy survey were sent out to the largest representative sample of our population (undergraduate students) which in total is 2,992 students. Once the survey closed after a month, we received 326 responses.
The assessment was administered through Qualtrics to the entire undergraduate student body. The survey did not save respondent information except when survey takers were asked if they were interested in being included into the drawing for a gift card to purchase a bicycle as an incentive for taking the survey.
A post-assessment Literacy & Culture survey will be deployed to the campus during April of 2023 to coincide with Earth Month-related programming at the institution.

A brief summary of results from the literacy assessment(s):
The fall semester of 2022 is the first time we have deployed both a Sustainability Culture and Literacy survey this extensive, making it difficult to measure any changes over time as now.
Some findings from this initial survey are that the largest percentage of respondents were from our current first-year class as well as involved in a major within the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. With some of the questions, many respondents answered questions correctly with the questions: "According to recent EPA data, the economic sector contributing the most greenhouse gas emissions in the United States is..." and "Of the following, which waste management practice is the most sustainable?" being the two questions that respondent answered varied with all of the choices offered.
