1. Safety Culture
Continued development and evaluation of existing safety programs. Supervisors and employees are encouraged and rewarded for identifying workplace safety concerns. Safety topics, reporting, assessments, etc. are spread throughout the year maintain a focus of safety on a continual basis. New employees are trained directly by supervisors upon appointment to encourage a safety ownership and culture within the department
2. Employee Training and Empowerment
Safety training is performed annually for all employees. The trainings will include mandatory topics as well as a rotation of relevant workplace safety topics. Fire safety and emergency preparedness training is performed annually.
Employees are encouraged to report safety concerns to their supervisors and/or directly to the Environmental Health & Safety department.
3. Hazard Identification And Control Systems
EHS does process reviews of facilities projects, Design and Construction projects, as well as student projects such as Art Displays and other proposed projects
4. Focus On Compliance
EHS elicits reviews by contractors of processes, fire equipment inspections.
5. Continous Improvement
Always reviewing injury/illness data to look at any trends we can focus our improvement to lessen them
6. Leadership And Organizational Buy-in
From the campus President on down, safety is one of the key components as seen in SUNY NP response to COVID -19. The campus has also improved its structure by adding a Campus Emergency Management Dept with a Certified Emergency Manager and an Assistant Director to improve our response and preparation to foreseen emergencies to lessen their impact.
