A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
Students are represented through the Student Association. Student representatives and officers are elected by fellow students. Academic and non-academic professional staff participate on faculty governance bodies. Non-academic staff including clerical and custodial workers and lower and middle-level admin positions participate in collective bargaining through the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) union.

A brief description of the campus-community council or equivalent body that gives external stakeholders a regular voice in institutional decisions that affect them:
The College maintains a town-gown committee including the Village of New Paltz Mayor, the Town of New Paltz Supervisor, the New Paltz School District Superintendent, first responders, and the Police Chief. Local community members can raise issues regarding the college to such members for their opinions to be passed on the town-gown committee through elected officials.
SUNY New Paltz holds regular meetings of the College Council, which are open to the public and attended by the highest-ranking officials of the University. One of the powers and duties of the College Council is to "foster the development of advisory citizens’ committees." External stakeholders may attend College Council meetings for their voices to be heard. https://www.newpaltz.edu/president/college-council/
