A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:
SUNY New Paltz offers a four year program leading to a B.S. in Environmental Geochemical Science. This interdisciplinary degree will provide students with a working knowledge of the scientific background required to address many environmental problems. It culminates in a senior research project done under the guidance of a skilled mentor. As our technological civilization continues to expand across the face of the planet, the human impact on our natural environment is exacting an ever increasing toll. In response to this concern, the field of environmental science has made a rapid advance into the scientific world. The goal of environmental science is to build a deeper understanding of the interaction between our technology and the natural environment that hosts it so that we can work toward building a sustainable civilization, providing for human needs while still preserving our unique natural heritage.

This concentration consists of 45-47 credits and includes courses focused on the social, cultural, and economic aspects of sustainability. These courses include Human Geography, People-Environment Geography, Economic Geography, Gender and Environment, Geography, Health & Environment, and Natural Resource Utilization and Management, among other courses.

The business major at SUNY New Paltz offers a management concentration with a sustainability track. This program consists of an additional 18 credits to the 40 credit business major. It includes courses focused on the social, environmental, and economic aspects of sustainability in business. These courses include Introduction to Managing Sustainability, Social Entrepreneurship and one upper-division course from outside the business school that focuses on sustainability or environmental issues: Transcultural Health, Natural Resources & Energy, Environmental Ethics, American Environmental Politics, Politics of Environment & Development, Environmental Sociology, among other courses.
