A brief description of when and why the workplace health and safety baseline was adopted:
The year 2009 was chosen as a baseline because it was the first full year under the direction of the present Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) with new ideas, safety promotions, training, and the "See Something, Say Something Campaign" to improve the physical environment for staff and students.

A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives:
SUNY New Paltz EHS staff provide all required safety training for staff, as well as supplemental Safety, Fire Safety and Environmental training throughout the year. SUNY New Paltz also requires departments to complete self-audits (labs, fine arts, and maintenance departments), as well as on-going inspections and safety campaigns. SUNY New Paltz also has safety committees for staff and students.
