A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The State University of New York at New Paltz has an Executive Director for Compliance and Campus Climate. She is responsible for Title IX provisions that deal with sexual assault, sexual harassment, and hostile workplace issues; affirmative action; and New York State ethics legislation. This includes resolving complaints, making policy recommendations, designing and facilitating training for students and employees (with support from Student Affairs and Human Resources respectively), and coordinating interdepartmental efforts to comply with these employment legislations.
Additional duties include developing and administering the college’s affirmative action plan; determining outcomes of employee accommodation requests; participation in the college’s various employee search processes and serving as the point of contact on relevant compliance questions from state, federal or other regulatory agencies.

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
SUNY New Paltz Administration in association with The Student Associations hosts an annual cultural/diversity discussion called "Let's Talk About It". This program is designed to encourage discussion across the entire campus about topics like racism, transgender/LGBTQ rights, and student access to education. Black Studies Professor Karanja Keita Carroll and Dean of the Library Mark Colvson have been organizing ongoing brown bag lunch discussion groups with students, faculty, and staff. Dr. Carroll and Sociology Professor Alexandra Cox have organized faculty study and discussion circles about race. Campus-wide teach-ins have taken place on race as well. Chief Diversity Officer of the State of New York Mecca Santana gave a well-attended speech to the campus during the fall of 2014.
The New Paltz LGBTQ Allies Program hold regular Allies training programs for faculty and staff at SUNY New Paltz. http://www.newpaltz.edu/lgbtq/allies.html
