A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:

The Office of Student Activities sent an online survey to all commuter students which included three transportation related questions, including one question that provided data for this credit. A total 100 commuter students participated in the survey. During the fall of 2014, 7,429 students were enrolled at SUNY New Paltz, of which 2,861 or 41.3% of students live on campus. Due to time and logistical constraints, on campus residents were not included in the survey. The above data is not representative of the entire campus body and is missing a large percentage of students who likely use sustainable commuting options such as walking, biking, or skateboarding across campus. In reality, the total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options is significantly higher than the 34% indicated above.
