The Charges of the Sustainability Commission for the 2017-2018 Academic Year can be described as such:
- To work with the Office of Communication and Marketing to enhance and strength visibility and infrastructure for sustainability initiatives on the campus and in the community
- To work with the Office of Sustainability to create an integrated system for the various reporting platforms we engage with and use that system to inform our thinking about strategic initiatives
- In collaboration with the Provost's Office, General Education Committee, and the Curriculum Design Working Group, contribute to the presence of sustainability issues in the discussion of curriculum and the Geneseo Learning Outcomes for a Baccalaureate Education
- Collaborate with student groups, the Division of Student and Campus Life, and faculty on co-curricular initiatives related to sustainability and applied learning and in areas of student advocacy as appropriate (e.g. intentional investment, fair trade).
- Work with the Office of Sponsored Research and the division of College Advancement to identify new funding opportunities related to sustainability.
Relating to Geneseo 2021 Strategic Plan:
- The commission undertakes work assigned to the commission in support of the Strategic Plan. Progress reports should be made regularly and at least annually to both a strategic planning group and the President.
- To advise the Strategic Planning Group on 1. actions that support effective implementation of the Eps action items that pertain to sustainability and 2. actions that support the attainment of Geneseo’s overarching goals of resilience and sustainability.
- To draft a plan to be recommended to the President to the college to implement optional fees for travelers to contribute their personal funds for carbon offsets
- To draft a plan to be recommended to the President to the college that would have the college reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 in accordance with the ACUPCC

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
The college has a Presidential Sustainability Commission, co-chaired by a faculty and staff member. The Commission has been undertaking work relating to Geneseo's 2021 Strategic Plan. Student, faculty, and staff can go to the Commission with ideas relating to sustainability in order to accomplish goals on campus. SUNY Geneseo also has an Office of Sustainability, headed by the Director of Sustainability. The Office of Sustainability, with the help of many interns, continues to have a successful composting initiative as well as eGarden planting and harvesting.
