SUNY Geneseo is included in the "SUNY Energy Smart New
York Strategic Plan." The primary goal of this SUNY strategic plan is to "help New York State become a national Smart Energy leader through transformative research, training and education and through SUNY’s own energy practices”
-In Education and Training SUNY will improve the Energy IQ of New York State
-In Research SUNY campuses will collaborate in the conduct of transformative energy research that will have a profound impact on society in ways that will improve New York State’s economy.
-In Energy Utilization SUNY will lead by example, optimizing its own energy usage as a system to reduce consumption and impact on the environment.

A brief description of how the strategic plan or amendment addresses the social dimensions of sustainability:
SUNY believes that higher education can set an example for pursuing reductions on greenhouse gas emissions. Geneseo currently works on developing sustainability plans through the Sustainability Commission which reports directly to our school's president. Furthermore, the action plan states that the Sustainability Commission works closely with student groups in order to develop progress in our campus' sustainability.

A brief description of how the strategic plan or amendment addresses the economic dimensions of sustainability:
We have addressed that by reducing our carbon footprint- we also hope to decrease our expenditures on energy. SUNY and an Energy Smart New York is one of the Six Big Ideas fueling SUNY’s strategic plan to drive New York’s economic revitalization and enhanced quality of life.
