a. Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The mission of the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion is to ensure that the university community understands and complies with both federal and state laws with respect to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action. While equal employment opportunity is the law, affirmative action and diversity issues require the university not only to provide access to employment and educational programs, but also to provide equitable opportunities to promote success. The primary goal of the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion is to create a campus climate that is favorable to the development of the human potential of all faculty, staff, administrators, and students. To achieve this goal, the office has three major responsibilities: compliance, equity of services, and diversity. b. Chief Diversity Officer: This position includes oversight of all diversity efforts across the University, including compliance and engagement needs. The CDO serves as the Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Affirmative Action Officer, the ADA Compliance Officer, and the Title IX Coordinator. The CDO reports directly to the campus President and serves on the Cabinet. The CDO coordinates and manages programmatic and training efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. c. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council: The council serves as an advocacy and advisory group to the Chief Diversity Officer regarding matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion for the Fredonia campus community. The Council responsibilities include: i. Review and make recommendations of Affirmative Action and other campus policies related to inclusion. ii. Assist in identifying areas in which problems exist. iii. Review and recommend appropriate action on practices and policies concerning personnel issues related to inclusive efforts. iv. Assist in planning of annual programmatic activities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. v. Assist the Chief Diversity Officer in promoting cultural pluralism. vi. Recommend policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion to the Chief Diversity Officer and review the implementation of approved policies related to inclusion. vii. Review the periodic update of the campus Affirmative Action plan.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence trainings and activities for each of the groups identified above:
a. Faculty/Staff/Administrators: i. Each year, employees of the University are required to complete online courses related to compliance. These are offered through a third party vendor (WeComply) and include topics such as: Affirmative Action, Internal Control Programs, Mandatory Reporting and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence in the Workplace, and Workplace Violence Prevention. ii. Regular programmatic training is offered to various groups of employees throughout the year by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Professional Development Center, and many others. These include offerings during the two Professional Development Days, specific sessions with various academic leaders, and open programs. Topics vary from year to year, but are centered on supporting an inclusive campus. iii. All new employees receive a one-hour training during their orientation from the Chief Diversity Officer in which Title IX, Affirmative Action, and cultural competency is reviewed. b. Students: i. Each year, students attend and have access to participate in many cultural trainings, programs, events, and speakers. These are offered through the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, International Education, and many others. ii. Resident Advisors in the Residence Halls receive specific training each year regarding supporting diverse communities. iii. During first year orientation, all new students participate in a “Fred:Diversity” program in which the Center for Multicultural Affairs leads small groups to explore difference, understand identity, and engage in cultural connections. iv.
