We here at Farmingdale State College encourage using less hazardous materials in place of more toxic/hazardous ones; we encourage reuse and recycling; we seek to purchase products and materials in batches to meet the needs of immediate work, reducing the change of having excess stock around; our Regulated Medical Waste is now being sent to a facility that recycles it (e.g. the plastics, glass and metals contained therein); our Universal Waste continues to be sent for recycling.
A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
All hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste is managed at the point of generation in Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAA'S). All Regulated Medical Waste is collected in a designated trailer that is properly identified/labeled and is maintained secure. All Universal Waste is collected, sorted and stored in a designated Universal Waste Storage Area. All Chemical Waste is stored in a 180 day Main Accumulation Area referred to as our "Volatile Storage Shed". Each of these areas is inspected on a regular basis for compliance. All waste is disposed of in a timely fashion and as prescribed by law through licensed, insured and properly permitted companies and is disposed of in permitted facilities.

Farmingdale State College uses MSDSonline – a VelocityEHS solution – which is home to the industry leading online library of Safety Data Sheets (formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDSs). Each year the EH&S Officer solicits chemicals inventories from each Department and updates the system. each chemical is paired with a SDS sheet, which is tied to a specific location on campus. Therefore, everyone on campus has access to what chemicals are used/stored here and where they are.

The electronic waste is collected through property management's surplus supply program. Department that have, for example, an old computer they'd like to recycle must fill out a surplus form. The items are then collected and put in a centrally located facility where an outside e-cycle company comes to pick it up. Alternatively we drop it off to them.
We also have an e-cycle bin in Quintyne Hall and Orchard Hall. The campus Sustainability Manager manages thess bins.
