Smart Energy House

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The Smart Energy House at Farmingdale State College appropriately earned its name by installing equipment that maintains efficiency, sustainability and smart energy. Equipment installed in the 2,000 square foot, three bedroom home includes a smart meter to control appliances remotely, solar energy solar hot water. Other features of the house include automated Venetian blinds controlled by sunlight and temperature, a charging station for an electric car, 20 solar panels, a “Wiser” system that controls equipment to conserve energy, smart plugs and programmable thermostats. The house just one example of Farmingdale’s ongoing commitment to being a "green" campus.
