Environmental Club: The Environmental Club promotes the awareness of environmental issues to help to make a difference in protecting our environment. Activities include hikes, beach clean up, touring recycling facilities, and hosting on-campus events.

The Farmingdale State College Department of Urban Horticulture & Design Teaching Gardens: In an area greater than 4 acres a series of theme gardens, or 'garden rooms', have developed since the 1930's. They have evolved under the tutelage of past and present horticulture faculty, often in combination with student designs. As part of their course requirements, students have layed out beds and borders, dug and prepared soil, planted and pruned, and removed countless undesirable weeds. Since 1995 the Farmingdale Horticulture Committee has financially supported Summer Garden Interns to help maintain the garden.

Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center (RESC): The mission of the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center is to enhance public awareness of emerging renewable energy resources through a focus on applied research and workforce training in the renewable/sustainable and smart grid technologies.
- RESC holds annual International Energy and Sustainability Conference (IESC)
- RESC- Develop certificate–level training programs in renewable energy resources for green technology entrepreneurs as well as the industry workforce
- RESC holds seminars and workshops on local and regional environmental and sustainability related issues and concerns.
- Horticulture department holds seminars or mini-conferences on Sustainable gardening and design

Environmental Club: The Environmental Club is supervised by the campus Sustainability Manager who coordinates beach clean ups on the local coastline. The club also hosts hikes, where the policies of Leave no Trace are followed.

Smart Energy House: This 2,000 square foot house has been equipped with smart appliances controlled by a smart meter, so that owners of such homes can monitor the house's energy use at any time, both in and out of the home. It is powered by solar PV and solar thermal (to supply hot water). There are even plans to install a renewable-energy treadmill in one of the bedrooms.

Sustainable Garden: The Sustainable Garden is a one-half acre demonstration garden within the department's Teaching Gardens focusing on contemporary strategies and practices relating to responsible resource use, conservation and innovation, product development and food production.
