NYPIRG: The New York Public Interest Research Group is New York’s most effective consumer and environmental student directed advocacy organization. NYPIRG empowers students to become leaders, activists, and organizers. They work to effect positive political change through planning events that create awareness for pieces of legislation that will benefit students and New York State communities. They work on a number of issues including environmental protection, voter mobilization, consumer action, hunger and homeless outreach, higher education and clean air/energy/recycling. - Black Student Union: The Black Student Union critically centers on raising awareness of social, cultural, and political phenomena in the Black community and in the African diaspora. With an emphasis on social justice and inclusivity, their goal is to empower our students with new knowledge and perspectives on Black people's experiences within the diaspora while providing a safe space where students can enjoy hanging out and getting to know others like themselves. - Pride Club: Pride Club is Cortland's LGBTQ+ community on campus, welcoming everyone including allies to come to our meetings. Each week the club focuses on a topic related to the LGBTQ+ community, including a deep dive into a topic of interest in the LGBTQ+ community. https://www.instagram.com/sunycortlandpride/
- Pan African Student Association: PASA, strives to raise awareness about African communities throughout the diaspora. PASA focuses on providing a supportive and welcoming environment through the promotion of the traditions and history of African Americans in the United States, people of African descent, and those of different ethnicities and background. Our goal is to provide a supportive and welcoming environment for all SUNY Cortland students, faculty, and staff and the broader community. In this organization we want to promote an understanding of and respect for diversity, multiculturalism and equity issues through fun and engaging events and activities which provide opportunities for cultural enrichment of all students, faculty, and staff. - Women of Color: a multicultural club on campus that focuses on reaching issues pertaining to all women of every color. We hold weekly meetings that encourage discussion, breakdown stereotypes, and build sisterhood. https://www.instagram.com/_womenofcolor/
- SUNY Cortland NAACP: The mission of the NAACP Youth & College Division shall be to inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities; to advance the economic, education, social and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples; to stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color’s contribution to civilization; and to develop an intelligent, effective youth leadership. https://www.instagram.com/cortland_naacp/
- SUNY Cortland Recreation Association (SCRA) The student-run club provides members and participants with opportunities to socialize, exchange ideas, give service to the community, and expand educational opportunities around outdoor recreation. The club fosters professional development and helps students establish connections within the field. - Physics and Engineering Club -The goal of the student run club is to give students the opportunity to create, hand over the reins, and say 'just try it!'. With a focus on getting everyone in the Cortland community immersed in science. - Habitat for Humanity - Habitat for Humanity is a club involved in service, sustainability, and volunteering in the community. Earth Week events include presentations, events, activities that focus on building knowledge, skills, and attitudes on sustainability. Some events are targeted more for students, but all events are open to the entire campus community and the public, and include presentations from students, on-campus and visiting faculty, campus and community energy/environmental professionals, administrators, and community members, as well as hands-on demonstrations and activities related to environmental and sustainability awareness.

The SUNY Cortland Green Rep program allows students to take part in a unique opportunity to educate the SUNY Cortland Campus Community on environmental issues and sustainable lifestyles. The Green Rep program's mission is to empower the campus community, through the development of peer-to-peer relationships, with the knowledge and skills necessary to live more sustainably and become active stewards of the environment. The primary objectives of the program are to develop programming to present sustainability related topics and information to students via programming in Residence Halls and campus-wide, align Green Rep program content with SUNY Cortland’s larger sustainability goals and priorities, and to make learning about and practicing sustainability fun, accessible, and exciting for students.
A team of on-campus students are hired as Green Reps each semester, assigned to each of the seventeen residence halls. These Green reps educate our residents and campus community by creating educational resources for the hall such as bulletin boards, hosting programs in the residence halls on campus and collaborating to create campus wide events each semester!

The SUNY Cortland Green Representatives' mission is to inspire sustainable lifestyles through peer to peer environmental education programs that will ultimately contribute to a more eco-friendly and sustainable campus.A team of on-campus students are hired as Green Reps each semester, assigned to each of the seventeen residence halls. These Green reps educate our residents and campus community by creating educational resources for the hall such as bulletin boards, hosting programs in the residence halls on campus and collaborating to create campus wide events each semester.
SUNY Cortland is participating in SUNY’s new Empire State Service Corps, which gives economically disadvantaged students the opportunity to intern in socially and professionally beneficial projects. Participating SUNY students engage in paid public service work for 300 hours over the course of a year. One type of work students can do is sustainability. Students will serve in campus roles, with local nonprofits and with state agencies, on sustainability work such as recycling campaigns, tree planting, pollinator gardens, sustainability outreach. SUNY Cortland Sustainability Empire State Service Corp memebers will focus on sustainability programming and education that is campus wide by planning campus wide events and initiatives and work directly with the campus Sustainability Office on sustainability projects on campus.

The Community Bike Project provides an alternative, more sustainable transportation options to students, faculty, and staff by providing a fleet of bicycles in the form of two and three-wheel bikes.
The CBP was founded by students, faculty and staff at SUNY Cortland who are passionate about the environment, sustainable transportation, and health and wellness. With day to day operations handled by students, the Community Bike Program also provides students with experience providing a sustainable service to a community.
SUNY Cortland has been awarded Bronze status for Bicycle Friendly University. The Bicycle Friendly University program recognizes institutions of higher education for promoting and providing a more bikeable campus for students, staff and visitors. The BFU program provides the roadmap and technical assistance to create great campuses for cycling
Description of additional sustainability-focused co-curricular activities for students:
The Big Event: A student-led community service project throughout Cortland brings students, faculty, and staff together to complete one BIG day of service for our neighbors in the community as a way to say "thank you" to the Cortland community. Volunteer assignments may include raking leaves, cleaning up trash, and any other requests we receive from community members.
