A brief description of the campaign(s):
Each year the SUNY Cortland and Ithaca College football teams compete in a game known as the Cortaca Jug. This is a very popular and competitive game, which fosters a significant rivalry between the colleges. We collaborated with Ithaca to create another competition that encouraged students, faculty, and staff to pledge to reduce their carbon footprint and lessen their impact on the environment. We utilized the Climate Culture website(http://climateculture.com/)and asked that all participants create a profile and pledge to make changes in their lifestyle. The Web page associated with the challenge highlighted specific changes that college students could make while living in on-campus housing and in off-campus apartments.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
333 members of the SUNY Cortland community participated in the Challenge, reducing their carbon footprint by more than 1.2% and saving 244,415 pounds of CO2. Not only was this enough to win the Challenge, but it would have placed SUNY Cortland in the top 10 of last year’s America’s Greenest Campus Contest. Shea and Higgins Halls were the top performing Residence Halls, the Environmental Science Club was the top SGA Club, and the Office of Residence Life and Housing will receive coffee and donuts as the top college office.
