Stanford's Marguerite bus fleet currently consists of 41 all-electric buses, which are heavily used. The remaining diesel buses, shuttles and vans are gradually being phased out.
The remaining campus fleet vehicles are managed centrally by the Land, Buildings & Real Estate Department (LBRE) and are steadily moving towards plug-in electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles where the vehicle duties allow. The campus has been implementing a strategic plan to move the campus fleet towards fully electric or non-motorized modes of transportation over the next several years.
As part of that plan, LBRE has led a transition to bicycles and electric bicycles rather than adding new motorized vehicles in the fleet, and other departments have followed suit.
