Stanford’s comprehensive Green Labs program provides resources specifically tailored for laboratories to help them operate as sustainably as possible. The following programs are offered:
Energy: rebates for energy efficient freezers and other lab equipment, shut-off timers for lab equipment, incentives for chilling up ultra-low temperature freezers, and free room-temperature storage starter kits.
Water: rebates for water conservation upgrades, such as low-flow fixtures and water misers on autoclaves
Materials: recycling of pipette tip trays, Styrofoam recycling, and a lab-equipment and materials reuse program
Chemicals: proper disposal of chemical waste, a chemical sharing program, and a chemical inventory and tracking system
Through an online assessment, labs receive training on best management practices and the resources available for them through the Green Labs program. After completing the survey, labs also receive personalized support towards making sustainability improvements in their spaces.
