A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
The University's yearly (starting in 2011) 'Climate Change Forum' uses classroom visits, broad campus addresses, and panel discussions, to evoke thought and action on the subject of climate change across campus and in the surrounding community. All lectures and presentations are open to the public. The planning committee includes representation from another local universities as well as the County government. Speakers and exhibitors are national as well as local experts.
The University provides the office space for the local non-profit GardenShare (who seeks to end hunger and strengthen food security in northern New York State).
Since 2011 the University has sponsored the guest speakers for the non-profit Local Living Venture's Local Living Festival (grassroots celebration of all things local -- rural life skills, small-scale agriculture, green building and renewable energy -- in town, in the dorm, and in the countryside).
