Land Based Learning Program

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The Sustainability team has facilitated two Land-Based Learning Retreat at the Elbow Lake Environmental Education Centre. At this retreat 94 behavioural psychology students were encouraged to reflect, engage, and share with each other how they can make a positive impact on the environment while incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being in their personal and professional lives.


Topics covered and activities  include;



  • The Climate Emergency

  • Climate Anxiety workshop

  • Biodiversity focused hike

  • Kairos Blanket Exercise

  • Importance of maintaining, repairing, and creating new biological ecosystems

  • How Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being collide with sustainability

  • Local systems change

  • United Nation's 17 SDGs
