A brief description of the institution’s sustainability projects fund:
The purpose of the Climate Leadership Program is to guide, inspire, and scale climate action in our local community through our students. Providing real-world opportunities for participants to get engaged, network, and explore social impact.
The Climate Leadership Program is a two-phase project where participants will identify needs in the Kingston community by conducting a needs assessment, defining what that need is, developing ideas that address those needs, and then pitching their team's project to win funding to implement their climate action project to a panel of judges. Two teams will be awarded a prize of $500 and one team will be awarded the top prize of $1,000 to dedicate to their project implementation.
Partners:
The Climate Leadership Program is made possible by the work of the following partners who have assisted with resources, space, mentorship, support, and funding:
- City of Kingston
- Innovation Hub at SLC
- Enactus St. Lawrence College
- Student Association SLC
- DDQIC
- Sustainable Kingston
This project will be scaled in Fall 2024 with 3 dedicated streams of climate action with more funding after the pilot proves successful and necessary.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
The jury panel for the Climate Leadership Program was selected to represent a wide range of fields, backgrounds, and identities without any ties to the student pitching teams. The judges all received the same instruction, criteria, and knowledge of the program and the pitch itself. The criteria was focused and the same for each of the projects.
