The Office of Sustainability has also completed several mandatory trainings but has also completed several on different topics.

 

- The importance of pronouns for building a culture of belonging

- The Kairos Blanket Exercise (x2)

-  Incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into your work.

- Building a culture of safety and belonging.

- Mental Health First Aid Training.

 

 


Does the sustainability office regularly collaborate on events, projects, or initiatives with the institution’s DEI office/program and/or organizations that support underrepresented groups on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of events, projects, or initiatives during the previous year developed in collaboration with the DEI office/program and/or organizations that support underrepresented groups on campus:

Our Sustainability Coordinator has sat on the Pride and Belonging Committee to lead projects, awareness, and events focused on the LGBTQ+ communities. This has been leading a parade in each of our three cities, a t-shirt art contest, and pride social events.


We have worked with our Indigenous Services team to deliver a few Kairos Blanket Exercises for 94 total students, installation of a TeePee on campus, and two Land-base Learning Retreats which combine Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being with Sustainability through behaviour changes and engaging activities. 


We have directly worked with student counselling services to help with the implementation of student-led mental health HUDDLE groups which are focused on peer-to-peer mental health support groups, to date there are 8 groups of different students with different areas of focus/

Our Sustainability Coordinator serves on the Pride and Belonging committee which is focused on awareness, event planning, and culture building for staff, faculty, and students at our colleges. This work has include Pride Parade planning at each of our three cities, pride socials, LGBTQ+ focused Huddle groups, a t-shirt art contest to have as the official St. Lawrence College pride logo, and other pieces. This committee does not have formal documentation and responsibilities are shared amongst the diverse group.
