Canada’s Ozone Layer Protection Awareness Program


This 1-day environmental awareness training program, based on Environment Canada's "Code of Practice for Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems", deals with environmentally-correct equipment design, proper handling of refrigerants, and will prepare participants for complying with Federal and Provincial Regulations covering refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Each participant will receive the course manual, and write the exam.  Participants who achieve 75% or higher on the exam will receive certification and receive an Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) card. We offer the course as needed – 2-3 offerings per year, on any campus. 1-day training (8 hrs)


Sustainable Local Food


This certificate explores the practices, principles and philosophies involved in local food system development. The focus is on increasing both academic and hands-on knowledge of regional food initiatives across Canada, alongside international best practices. There is a specific concentration on applied learning, online networking, and community research. This certificate is the first of its kind in Canada, providing a cutting-edge advantage when competing for work in the sustainable local food sector.


To successfully complete this program, participants must complete six (6) compulsory courses.


Upholstery for all Levels – Students bring in furniture pieces they wish re refurbish/reupholster. This is a 32-hour course held over two weekends in SLC carpentry shop, Kingston.

Sustainable Local Food


This certificate explores the practices, principles and philosophies involved in local food system development. The focus is on increasing both academic and hands-on knowledge of regional food initiatives across Canada, alongside international best practices. There is a specific concentration on applied learning, online networking, and community research. This certificate is the first of its kind in Canada, providing a cutting-edge advantage when competing for work in the sustainable local food sector. This certificate program has been offered since 2017. Required Courses include:

  • CSSL 33 Food System Trends and Policy in Canada Today

  • CSSL 29 Understanding Sustainable Farming: Principles and Practices

  • CSSL 31 Between Farm and Table: Local Food Businesses and Cooperatives

  • CSSL 28 Food Security and Food Justice in Canada

  • CSSL 30 Urban Agriculture, Community Gardens, Food Secure Cities
