In 2007 SJU signed the NYC Carbon Challenge, a commitment to reduce carbon footprint by 30 percent by 2017. The NYC Carbon Challenge is a well structured, recognized program. SJU accomplishments to date is 24 percent carbon reduction below its 2007 base year. NYC recognized SJU with a full page case study (p.37) in its 2015 NYC Carbon Challenge Handbook for Universities and Hospitals.

A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
In 2009 SJU implemented a web-based utility tracking system to track all of its 220 utility accounts. In 2010 SJU began monitoring 9 buildings energy consumption on Building Dashboard by Lucid Design. Then, in 2015 SJU increased its Building Dashboard to 27 buildings on its main campus. Between 2010 and 2015 SJU implemented 45 energy conservation measures valued at $25 million. Along with energy efficient upgrades, SJU continues to focus on energy efficient operations.
