SSN College offers scholarships for students with disabilities, emphasizing inclusivity and equal opportunities in higher education, SSN provides internal scholarships to aid students in covering tuition fees, accommodation, and academic resources. Dedicated to empowering differently-abled students, the institution also offers specialized support services to ensure a holistic and accessible learning environment, fostering their personal and professional growth.

Eliglibility
The scholarships are open only to Indian nationals. 
All the components of scholarships are open to students with benchmark disability i.e. 40% or more disability as defined in ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and having a valid certificate of disability issued by the competent authority as prescribed under Rules .
Not more than two children with disabilities of the same parents will be entitled to receive benefits of the scheme. In case the second child is a twin, the scholarship under the schemes will be admissible to the twin. 
A scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend.

Objective :

 

  • SSN Institutions is committed in creating and maintaining a community in which the students, faculty and non-teaching staff can work together in an environment free of violence, harassment, exploitation, and intimidation. Hence, any form of gender inequality resorting to violence, sexual harassment and discrimination based on sex/gender is prohibited on the campus.
  • This policy envisages -To evolve a permanent mechanism for the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment cases and other acts of gender-based violence.
  • To ensure the implementation of the policy in letter and spirit through proper reporting of the complaints and their follow-up procedures.
  • To provide an environment free of gender-based discrimination.
  • To create a secure physical and social environment which will deter acts of
    sexual harassment.
  • To promote a social and psychological environment which will raise awareness about sexual harassment in its various forms

Programs and Initiatives for Employees with Disabilities

 The following are the comprehensive measures taken at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar (SSN) College of Engineering, Chennai, to uphold the commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all employees, ensuring that those with disabilities can work comfortably and prosper in their professional roles.

1. Equal Opportunity Policy:

SSN College has a strong non-discrimination policy, ensuring equal opportunities for employees with disabilities. The institution actively promotes an inclusive culture where individuals with disabilities are valued and supported.

2. Accessible Recruitment Process:The college ensures that the recruitment process is accessible to individuals with disabilities. This includes providing reasonable accommodations during interviews, such as accessible interview locations, and offering assistive technologies if needed.

 3. Professional Development Programs:SSN College offers professional development opportunities tailored to employees with disabilities. 1. Ramps and Accessible Pathways:The campus is equipped with ramps and accessible pathways to ensure that employees with mobility impairments can move around easily. These ramps are strategically placed at building entrances, pathways, and other critical areas to provide seamless access.

2. Elevators: All multi-story buildings on the campus are equipped with elevators that are accessible to individuals with disabilities. These elevators are designed to accommodate wheelchairs and include Braille buttons and auditory signals for individuals with visual impairments.

 3.Accessible Restrooms:The college has accessible restrooms that are designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. These restrooms are spacious and equipped with handrails, lower sinks, and other necessary modifications to ensure ease of use.

4. Medical Clinic and Health Services: SSN has an on-campus medical clinic that provides healthcare services to all employees, including those with disabilities. The clinic has employed medical professionals trained to handle emergencies and provide routine health checkups Employees with disabilities have access to regular health checkups and specialize care as needed. The college provides counselling services and mental health support to all employees. These services are particularly important for individuals with disabilities, who may face additional challenges related to their condition.

5. Health and Wellness Programs: To promote the overall well-being of employees with disabilities, mental health professionals are invited to address specific needs and challenges faced by employees with disabilities. Regular health checkups and health camps are being organized for employees with disabilities to help them track their vitals and overall health. 6.3 Institutional climate assessment

NARRATIVE:

The climate assessment for underrepresented groups in our college was conducted to evaluate the experiences, level of satisfaction, comfort and safety, challenges, perceptions of students. The survey aimed to gather insights on the inclusivity, support systems, and overall environment within the institution to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for fostering a more equitable and welcoming atmosphere.

Methodology: A comprehensive survey was distributed among sample representatives of underrepresented groups, including women, ethnic minorities,, first-generation students, and those with disabilities. The survey covered various aspects such as academic experiences, campus culture, Comfort, safety, Satisfaction, mentorship opportunities, and incidents of bias or discrimination. Responses were collected anonymously to ensure honest feedback and encourage participation.
