4.1 Sustainability culture assessment design and administration

The SSN Institution has assessed its sustainability culture during the previous three years
The assessment is designed and administered in such a way that the results can be used to measure change over time (e.g., as a longitudinal or annual/biennial assessment). –yearly once for 30 days continuous assessment
We the NSS Unit of SSN conducted an online event “COOL THE GLOBE”, which started on the 24th of May and ended on the 24th of June for a period of 32 days. 220 participants across all departments participated in it. It is a long-term process of recording the carbon usage by each individual.

COOL THE GLOBE
Participants have saved carbon emissions by using two-wheelers or cycles or by walk instead of four-wheelers, switching off air conditioners, water heaters, fans and lights and avoiding the use of single-use plastics, using public transport instead of private transport, to reduce the litters, to minimize the consumption of fossil fuels, saving electricity when it is not required etc.

COOL THE GLOBE:
We utilized the app "Cool the Globe," available on the Play Store, to track and minimize the carbon emissions of students. This app has been helpful in assessing the various sources of carbon emissions generated by individuals, helping users become more conscious of their environmental impact. The app encouraged students to adopt more sustainable habits by providing real-time data and actionable insights, significantly raising awareness about the importance of reducing carbon footprints. The ability to track and visualize personal emissions motivated students to make more eco-friendly choices in their daily lives, contributing to a broader culture of environmental responsibility. Overall, "Cool the Globe" has been an effective tool in fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainable living among students.

The "Cool the Globe" app is an innovative tool designed to help individuals and communities track and reduce their carbon footprint, contributing to global sustainability efforts. When used to assess the sustainability culture of students, this app provides a hands-on approach to environmental responsibility, allowing students to actively engage in monitoring their daily activities and understanding their environmental impact.
Student Sustainability Culture was Assessed on following factors:
- Carbon Footprint Tracking: Students to log their daily activities such as transportation, energy use, and waste management in the app. This tracking helps them understand how their lifestyle choices contribute to carbon emissions.
- Goal Setting and Challenges: Students set personal goals for reducing their carbon footprint and participate in challenges with their peers. This feature encouraged students to adopt more sustainable habits.
- Educational Resources: The students also educated on the importance of sustainability and the impact of their actions. This helps to cultivate a deeper understanding and commitment to sustainable living.
- Data Analysis: By aggregating data from student users, the app can provide insights into the overall sustainability culture within the student community. This data can be used to assess the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
- Impact Measurement: Individual actions was tracked and the collective impact of a representative group of the was calculated.
By using the "Cool the Globe" app, Our institutions can created the culture of sustainability among students, encouraging them to take responsibility for their environmental impact and inspiring them to become advocates for a sustainable future.

METHODOLOGY
To measure the percentage of employees assessed for sustainability culture at SSN, a Google Form survey was designed to evaluate employees' awareness and engagement with sustainability practices. The survey was distributed to all staff members, with periodic reminders sent to encourage participation. Responses were tracked in real time, and duplicates or incomplete entries were filtered out for accuracy. The final percentage of employees assessed was calculated by dividing the number of valid responses by the total number of employees and multiplying by 100, providing a clear measure of engagement with the sustainability culture.
