PROMOTION/TENURE GUIDLINES:
AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) guidelines for faculty promotion and tenure emphasize the importance of academic contributions, including research, teaching, and professional service. The standards for faculty promotion, such as for Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors, typically require published research in peer-reviewed journals, but they also recognize a broader range of impactful academic and professional contributions.
Under AICTE norms, research activities can be recognized beyond just academic journals. For example, faculty members are encouraged to engage in research consultancies, which involve providing expertise in return for external funding. This type of research consultancy is recognized, as long as it benefits the institution and aligns with its objectives, thus contributing to the institution's reputation and knowledge transfer to society. Non-research consultancies, including professional services, are also considered valuable, provided they do not conflict with university interests.
