Sustainability-Focused Institutional Learning Outcomes for Undergraduate Students at SSN College

  1. Understanding Environmental Systems and Challenges:
    Graduates will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of environmental systems,  and the challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion.

  2. Promoting Sustainable Development:
    Students will acquire the knowledge and skills to design and implement strategies that promote sustainable development, balancing environmental, social, and economic considerations.

  3. Ethical and Social Responsibility:
    Graduates will develop a sense of ethical responsibility and a commitment to advancing social equity, environmental justice, and inclusive practices in their personal and professional lives.

Environmental Science, Humanities I -Sample 

In addition to acquiring a depth of knowledge in a particular academic discipline, students should also be broadly educated that would enable them to address interdependent economic, environmental and social challenges. The first-year subjects including a mandatory course on Environmental Science, Humanities I as elective course and Design thinking & Engineering practices lab accomplishes all the first-year undergraduate students to gain mastery of critical learning skills, investigate the traditional branches of knowledge, and develop the broad perspective to understand human relationships, perceptions and policies towards the environment and focus on technology for improving environmental quality.

B.E. Mechanical Engineering:  Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of sustainable engineering practices, particularly in energy systems, materials, and manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency.

B.E. Bio-Medical Engineering: Graduates will acquire the skills to develop biomedical technologies that address healthcare needs in a manner that is environmentally sustainable and socially responsible, focusing on minimizing waste and promoting health equity.

B.Tech. Chemical Engineering: Graduates will be proficient in designing chemical processes that are environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient, and economically viable, ensuring minimal environmental degradation through green chemistry and sustainable resource management.

B.E. Computer Science and Engineering: Graduates will understand the role of information technology in sustainability, emphasizing energy-efficient computing, green software development, and the use of technology to support sustainable practices across various industries.

B.Tech. Information Technology: Graduates will be able to apply sustainable IT solutions in the development of software and hardware systems, focusing on energy efficiency, low-carbon digital infrastructures, and technological innovations that support the achievement of sustainability goals.

B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering: Graduates will be skilled in designing and implementing electrical systems that promote sustainability, focusing on renewable energy systems, energy-efficient technologies, and reducing environmental impact through innovation.

The 18-credit minor in Environment and Sustainability allows students from many areas of study to explore the challenges of sustainability and how it may be used to develop solutions to pressing issues at Indian and global levels. Students in the Environment and Sustainability minor learn about the sustainability development goals and how they may be used to develop solutions to pressing issues affecting society, the environment, and the world. The program introduces sustainability principles, sustainable biomaterials and contextualizes how sustainability can be applied to Infrastructure development, agriculture, water, energy, and environment management.
