All faculty were contacted via listserve and/or email and given the definitions and asked to self report. A committee reviewed th list and compiled a list of research meeting the criteria. When in question the departments and/or faculty members were contacted and the critieria was discussed.

A brief description of notable accomplishments during the previous three years by faculty and/or staff engaged in sustainability research:
-Dr. Jennifer Rehg of our anthropolgy department, together with a team chartered and established 380 acres of protected forest lands, secondary forest, grasslands, and lake shore habitats; the preserves are a site for transdisciplinary research.
-Dr. Connie Frey-Spurlock Faculty Sustainability Fellow and Professor of Sociology found specific correlation between Sustainability and graduation retention rates.
-Dr. Richard Essner, R. L., Jr., Z. R. French, L. M. Richter, and P. R. Minchin compiled significant novel findings on "Bohm Woods and the SIUE Nature Preserve: Valuable Conservation Assets for Southwestern Illinois."
-Dr. R. L. Richter, R. L. Essner Jr., and P. R. Minchin published "A survey of bluff forest avifauna in Southwestern Illinois. Transactions of the Illinois State Academy of Science."
-Dr. Kurt Schulz, J. Wright, and S. Ashbaker published a study on local endangered plant species in their publication, "Comparison of invasive shrub honeysuckle eradication tactics for amateurs: stump treatment versus regrowth spraying of Lonicera maackii. Restoration Ecology."
-Master's student Chad Rieger published, "Phosphorus budget for Cougar Lake." Masters Thesis, Environmental Sciences Program.
-Master's student Tim Tripp published, "Comparisons of lead concentrations in fish tissues from two southwestern Illinois lakes." Masters Thesis, Biological Sciences Program.
