Southern Illinois University Carbondale pays all employees a minimum wage of $8.25/hour which is significantly higher than the federal minimum wage. This applies to our student employees as well. In addition, the University adheres to the Prevailing Wage Act which ensures that craft and trade positions (temporary or permanent) are paid the trade’s prevailing wage. We also fall under the jurisdiction of the State Universities Civil Service System which conducts salary surveys biannually to ensure we are keeping pace with other universities in the state.
