Does the institution offer housing options to accomodate the special needs of transgender and transitioning students (either as a matter of policy or as standard practice)?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the program, policy, or practice:
To meet the needs of transgender and transitioning students, University Housing works individually with these students to make room assignments based on their residential area preferences.
For Fall 2014, Wall & Grand Apartments will be promoted as gender neutral housing, where students, regardless of sex, gender or gender identity, may share an apartment. Students with sophomore status and up are eligible to reside at Wall & Grand.
It is fairly common to find Housing programs across the country offering gender neutral options for upperclassmen and just beginning to trend for new students. Our 2012 Housing Master Plan calls for new housing on the East side of campus over the next 10 years, with the first buildings projected to open in Fall 2016. We anticipate being able to offer gender neutral housing to first-year students as well in our new buildings.
