A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :

PERMICULTURE:
LOGIC Local Organic Gardening initiative of Carbondale is the SIUC student organic garden. This is completely volunteer initiated, organized and operated. The students studies about Permaculture and set up a 40' x 40' site in 2011. Permaculture is a form of environmental design that evolves into a self-sustaining agricultural food production system that is based on natural ecosystems. At this site, LOGIC students promote Permaculture education and awareness on campus and in the community.

HOOP HOUSE:
LOGIC Local Organic Gardening initiative of Carbondale is the SIUC student organic garden. This is completely volunteer initiated and run. In 2011, a hoop house was added with the help of a USDA grant that students and faculty/staff were awarded. This structure allows the students to extend the growing season into Fall and Winter months. They can now grow food and sell it at the Carbondale Winter Farmer's Market.
