South Seattle College's Sustainability Committee makes recommendations to South’s president and the college community regarding projects and policies that promote sustainability. The committee creates and maintains campus sustainability initiatives and identifies practices that promote efficient and responsible use of South’s resources.

Current members include; 1) Steve Abercrombie, Faculty, Sustainable Building Science Technology B.A.S., 2) Abigail Daane, Faculty, Physics, 3) Julienne DeGeyter, Vice President of Finance and Administration, 4) Craig Grosinger, Director of Facilities Operations and Capital Projects, 5) Janet Kapp, Faculty, Nutrition/Health/Biology, 6) Monica Lundberg, Manager of Student Programs, 7) Alison Pugh, Interim Assoc. Dean Math/Science/Business, 8) Adam Maurer, District Sustainability Coordinator. We also recruit and hold students as members, but these change frequently due to limited quarters spent studying at South.

Seattle Central College is part of the Seattle Colleges district. Seattle Colleges has an Office of Sustainability. The Sustainability Coordinator in the Office of Sustainability serves as the lead coordinator for the implementation of a district-wide sustainability plan and continual resource conservation efforts.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
The South Seattle Sustainability Committee is made up of students, faculty, and staff. Furthermore, South Seattle is part of the Seattle Colleges district. Seattle Colleges has a Sustainability Coordinator who serves as the lead coordinator for the implementation of a district-wide sustainability plan and continual resource conservation efforts. Over the past three years, the Committee and District Sustainability Coordinator have hosted Earth Week events, recruited and funded over 15 students to attend the regional sustainability conference known as WOHESC, installed new waste disposal containers and signage, conducted several waste audits, hosted Trash Talkers at the main dining hall and special events, incorporated sustainability into international student orientation, conducted an assessment of the curriculum for sustainability, and help support the United Student Association (USA) Sustainability Officer.

South Seattle is part of the Seattle Colleges district. We also have a District Sustainability Committee. Several South Seattle faculty and staff are members of the District Sustainability Committee and bring relevant campus level issues to this committee, as well as relaying important committee work and decisions to relevant staff on the South campus. http://sustainability.seattlecolleges.edu/
