Yes
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution, including how each program addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability:
The Sustainable Building Science Technology program at South Seattle College provides several opportunities for immersion in the real-world dynamics of sustainability and industry.
The program requires 9 credits of internship related to sustainable building science technology woven throughout the six-quarter program, beginning in the second quarter and ending in the fifth quarter. Students are responsible for securing internships and contracting for each internship in conjunction with his/her site supervisor. Faculty oversee contract development and milestone progress. Students are required to present on their internships.
In addition, students are required to engage in quarter-long projects that connect to industry several times in the program. An example of this is juniors were tasked to create an energy management plan for a facility. Students worked with several types of facilities, gaining access to buildings/systems, interviewing staff, evaluating/analyzing, and finally recommending ECMs (energy conservation measures). This past year students used the following buildings: Google Facilities – Parkview, Ballard Dental Care, Green Bean Coffeehouse, St. George School, WashDoT Ballinger Satellite Maintenance Facility, Westside Unitarian Universalists Congregation, Police Academy Dormitories, Alki Elementary School, Pacific Tower, and a commercial historic building in Kent.
