A brief description of the sustainability trainings and professional development opportunities available to staff :
The District offered a training on sustainability in education this year. The training was open at all college staff across the district. The District Sustainability Committee offers one sustainability related staff training each year depending on staff interests.
A description of the training event:
"Sustainability” may be a buzzword, but the ideas behind it are here to stay. Why? For the first time in the history of humankind, our activities on the earth are taking place at such a massive scale that every aspect of Earth’s biosphere is affected – from the atmosphere and climate, to ocean fisheries and agriculture, from the poles to the equator. In this world, human well-being, environmental health, and economic prosperity are highly interdependent in complex relationships. Public awareness and expectations have changed toward “green” solutions in business, technology, environmental protection, and education. In this participatory workshop, you’ll work with your colleagues to learn and discover what sustainability means for an academic institution and how YOU can incorporate sustainability principles into your classroom activities and/or course outcomes.
The event will be facilitated by Andrea Ramage, a lead technologist and practitioner in the field of sustainability for nearly 20 years."
