A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

There are a handful of trainings offered every quarter through the Office of Diversity and Retention. These offerings change quarterly but cover topics from race perception, gender issues, income disparity, and class privilege. Two specific offerings this year were "Showing the Intersection Between Oppression" and "Beyond the Veil - An Underrepresented View of conflict in the Middle East".

There are also a handful of ongoing programs to support cultural competency training. These include VOICES, a collaboration of students and community members to provide support and multicultural education on Pacific Islander perspectives; DRUM, the Diversity Reading to Understand Multiculturalism book club offered once per quarter to students, faculty, and staff wanting to gain different perspectives on multicultural issues, and also resources provided through the Intercultural Development Inventory.
