A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

The State of South Dakota’s employee well-being program, LiveWellSD, empowers employees and their families to take charge of their total well-being to live their best life at work and at home. Whether you want to be more physically fit, socially connected, emotionally balanced, or financially secure, we have resources to support you on your well-being journey.


The Employee Assistance Program (EAP), is sponsored by the South Dakota State Employee Benefits Program and Administered by ComPsych® and GuidanceResources®. This service is offered at no cost to benefit-eligible employees and their spouses, dependents, and household members.


The South Dakota Mines Counseling office oversees the Wellness Committee. This group of individuals represent different parts of campus and the Rapid City provider community. The committee has spent the last 4 year developing topic driven campaigns that address different aspects of the Wellness Wheel. The focus of this Committee is to provide education, information and training on mental health, chemical use and abuse, healthy life alternatives, sexual wellbeing, financial education, suicide prevention and other aspects of being a healthy and well-rounded citizen. This group provides an annual Wellness Fair for the students that Faculty and Staff are encouraged to attend.

The institution’s smoke-free policy:

In order to protect and promote the health and comfort of college students, employees and visitors, smoking, vaping, and tobacco use of any kind is prohibited on the entire interior of the campus including campus buildings, residence halls, grounds and parking lots. Smoking, vaping, and tobacco use is allowed in personal vehicles in designated parking lots on the perimeter of campus. No sale or give away of smoking, vaping, or tobacco products is allowed on campus.
