Campus Recreation Center built to LEED Standards but did not pursue certification due to cost. Formally recognized as a Sonoma County Green Business. A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with sustainable building operation and maintenance guidelines and policies:
The Recreation Center employs a student Sustainability Coordinator to ensure that our Green Business Cert. requirements are being met. The Coordinator also leads staff sustainability trainings and educational sessions and does outreach projects/events involving users of our facility and the campus community to ensure widespread awareness of our sustainability commitment. The coordinator responsible for purchasing office supplies always buys products with the highest possible recycled content. Marketing coordinators are instructed to print standard 8X11 flyers/posters on the back of used paper. General facilities employees use equipment, materials and products with high recycled content and non-toxic ingredients. Recycling program is expansive and includes composting as well as a partnership with Teracycle for specific items. Items no longer needed are kept in a secure location for donation to various local groups or, if none can be found, thrift stores. Energy Star equipment is used. Efficient landscaping surrounds the building and is irrigated with reclaimed water. Programs coordinators use local businesses and US vendors for purchasing whenever possible. Much more.
