Student life is marked by many changes. For some students, coming to Soka may be the first time away from home. Other students may be leaving one academic community and adjusting to a "new home" at Soka. Still, others are beginning to ask themselves difficult questions about relationships, career, identity, and similar issues. We understand these dilemmas to be a normal part of development in adults.
Our Counselor, Anhthu Dang, offers assistance to help students "sort out" many issues such as:
establishing and maintaining relationships
coping with anxiety and depression
adjusting to changing roles as a young adult
family of origin issues
dealing with losses
meeting new academic demands
adjusting to life in the U.S.
Students can make appointments with Anhthu via e-mail or phone.
Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is provided by Aetna Resources for Living. Aetna offers free professional assistance in resolving a broad range of personal and family problems. All employees are eligible to use the EAP, as are their immediate family members and/or registered domestic partner. Aetna counselors provide assessment, consultation, referral and short-term counseling for a range of difficulties including: emotional distress, family and marital problems, alcohol or drug abuse, stress at home or work, and financial or legal concerns. All services are confidential, and provided at no charge. Referrals may incur an expense that will be your responsibility. Some costs, such as counseling or chemical dependency treatment, are partially covered by some of SUA’s insurance plans. Aetna professionals are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It’s free and confidential to call
Services are private and paid for by your employer. If you accept a referral to services that aren’t part of our own resources, you may incur a cost for those services.
If you’re referred to us by a supervisor for performance issues, it’s called a management referral. Only with your written permission will your employer be made aware of your use of the services.
Your employer still won’t receive any personal information. We’ll only send reports about whether you’re making progress in your treatment. You’ll always be aware of the content of any discussions between your provider and your employer.
