SSU Sustainability Committee Residential Life Energy Challenge
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
The Residential Life Energy Challenge was a three week competition that occurred in February 2017. Before the challenge, baseline measurements were recorded for one week of energy use in each of the eight residence halls; over the next three week period, students were encouraged to reduce energy use from the baseline. The winning hall was determined by calculating the energy reduction per person from the baseline.
Engagement materials included posters and an informational video. Residential Assistants were encouraged to promote the Energy Challenge within their halls.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The total energy usage of all residence halls went from a total of 37125.3 kW-hr during the baseline week to 36714.6 kW-hr in the last challenge week, reducing our energy usage by 410.7 kW-hr.
