Name of the employee educators program (1st program):
Sustainable Office Certification

A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
The Sustainable Office Certification was created in the summer of 2016 by a student intern and the campus sustainability coordinator. The goal of the program is to engage staff offices in Smith sustainability goals, and to create behavior change in favor of more sustainable practices at work. The program creates Sustainable Office liaisons in each participating office, and these liaisons work as peer-to-peer educators in their office.

The liaisons receive support from the campus sustainability coordinator and the Sustainable Offices intern. The Office of Campus Sustainability holds monthly lunches where liaisons gather to discuss successes and challenges in their offices, and receive additional training and trouble-shooting support from the sustainability coordinator and intern. The liaisons are also responsible for continually evaluating their office using the Sustainable Office Certification checklist, and communicating with their colleagues about how they're doing.

A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):
Employee educators who serve as liaisons between the sustainability office and their respective office usually start with a basic understanding of sustainable practices - that is why they are motivated/inspired to have their office join the program. Further training comes in the form of talking with the sustainability coordinator and other liaisons already in the program about specific practices for their office, and practices that have worked in other offices around campus. A monthly lunch is held where employee educator liaisons meet and share issues, ideas, and success stories. Employee educators can focus on specific education and outreach activities that we (sustainability office) promote and they are inspired to bring to their office, such as composting and providing/using reusable dishware. Educators can create signage and talk to others in their office about how to compost and the benefits of it. They could also encourage employees to bring in one mug or plate from home to create a communal set for meetings/lunches.
