A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

Smith College's main campus consists of over 100 buildings, many of them historic. These buildings include student housing (with and without dining areas), classroom buildings, office buildings, athletic facilities, laboratory buildings, and a parking garage. We include all of these buildings in our institutional boundary. We also include the MacLeish Field Station, a 240-acre field station in Whately, MA. The Field Station is home to our Bechtel Environmental Classroom, a living building, and we include this building and the property, which is under conservation, in our institutional boundary.

Smith owns several small buildings that are leased to other parties that we consider out of our operational control. These buildings include faculty housing and Green Street buildings leased to local businesses. Additionally we we have four small leased properties overseas that are used for study abroad programs. We also lease a crew house (more of a storage area) on the Connecticut River. These are not included in our institution boundary because they are largely outside of our operational control.
