A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
Slippery Rock welcomes both new and returning students with two weeks of "WOW" activities and informational sessions. A flyer insert describing SRU sustainability programs, sustainable internship opportunities, and clubs is provided in the "Successful Learning: A Guide to First Year Studies (FYRST)" handbook provided to all incoming freshman. Sustainability was incorporated into the WOW events by encouraging students to participate in the campus-wide Energy Pledge Campaign, Recycling and Waste Prevention Programs, as well as the Green Bike Initiative Program. Students were also educated about Slippery Rock's Office of Sustainability and encouraged to join clubs and organizations related to sustainable causes. In addition, a sustainability poster “Preparing Our Students for a Green Economy” that pertains to sustainability-focused jobs was placed on each Residence Hall floor bulletin board. The university's map featuring sustainable campus features and trails was also distributed and made available online.
