Environmental Health and Safety conducts annual safety inspections of laboratories and works with departments on minimizing its hazardous waste. SRU also has an asbestos abatement crew that is constantly working to remove asbestos from campus.

Departments store wastes in designated areas and quarterly the Environmental Health and Safety Department collects it and utilizes a hazardous materials recycler to properly dispose of the waste.
