New York Higher Education Large Scale Renewable Energy Project

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
NYHE LSRE Overview
• 20-campus consortium (14 SUNY, 2 Community
Colleges, 4 Privates)
• Privates include: Bard, Cornell, Ithaca, Skidmore
• Seeks to purchase renewable energy from new largescale
projects through 12-15 year vPPA sited in NY or
PJM transmission territory
• Edison Energy serving as project consultant
• Project creates economies of scale that would otherwise
not be realized by independent projects, cooperation
among members also reduces cost to institution
• No financial commitment by participating institutions until
PPA is signed with project developer
• Agreements also include RECs (project or replacement),
supporting GHG commitments
• Original expected operational dates: Project 1 - November 2021; Project 2 - November 2022 (although some delays have arisen)
