SFU requires contractors to submit a storm water management plan for approval that meets or exceeds the City of Burnaby's requirements as part of the Building Permit process including measures to divert soil erosion and storm water detention and retention strategies. Burnaby campus is a watershed for adjoining communities and every effort is made to avoid polluting the creeks and waterways, including No Dumping.

A copy of SFU's current plan is available on the Facilities Services Website. SFU is currently working on a broad, more comprehensive stormwater management plan as part of its campus master planning (currently in draft form).
