Erica Lay, Associate Director of the Sustainability Office is a the Co-chair of the BC Carbon Neutral Government Higher Education Committee. Rachel Telling, SFU's Manager, Campus Sustainability is a member of the Burnaby Board of Trade's Environmental Sustainability Committee and the The BC Municipal Waste Research Collaborative's Steering Committee. She is also co-leading and developing the Post-Secondary Recycling Forum in Vancouver, BC. Kayla Blok, Program Coordinator at the SFU Sustainability Office serves as the Sustainability Manager for the WACAUBO conference planning committee.

SFU's waste diversion rate has increased from 25% to over 70% in three short years thanks to the institution's award winning Zero Waste Initiative. Given the program’s success, Rachel Telling, SFU's Manager, Campus Sustainability has worked with numerous post secondary institutions across North America and shared her insight on a successful waste diversion program. To date, Rachel has responded and engaged with over 50 of such requests and shared resources including signage information, bin type and allocation as well as tips on securing institutional and community buy-in to similar programs.
