A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

SFU serves on the BC Core Government and Broader Public Sector Carbon Neutral Committee, and a representative from SFU chairs the BC Higher Education Carbon Neutral Committee, which provides feedback and takes and advocacy role related to Provincial Government legislation on Carbon Neutral Government.
In particular, the BC higher Education Carbon Neutral Committee submitted a cohesive position statement on the dissolution of the independent carbon offset clearing house, the Pacific Carbon Trust, and advocating for improve funding structure with respect to the use of carbon offsets by post-secondary universities in the province. The transition to this improved funding structure for all Post Secondary Institutions in BC is underway.
