A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :
The university runs a teaching assistant program that provides training and funding to graduate students. Teaching assistants are offered training in instruction for the university audience and are paired with a faculty member to assist in teaching an undergraduate course.
The teaching assistant program encourages diversity within the graduate programs at SFU as it offers paid work experience opportunities with benefits to students who might not otherwise have the opportunity such as international students who cannot work off campus.
The program offers opportunities to any graduate student and provides a basis for training for future educators.
