A brief description of the technology used:
Simon Fraser University started 2 and a half years ago (2008) replacing existing exterior lighting (street walkway and courtyard areas) with new LED type fixtures. Existing lighting are mostly high pressure sodium with many of the fixtures shining upward. In general, the new LED replacement uses one half or less of the power and it is expected to last for a minimum of 12 years. The result of it is positive and light levels are much better on the roadways and walkways. Security and safety have been improved as a result.
