A brief description of how the institution’s library(ies) support open access to research:
Sheridan Library and Learning Services has a range of supports to promote open access to research. SOURCE (http://source.sheridancollege.ca) is an open access repository for the scholarly output, research and creative excellence of our academic community. Individuals have the opportunity to make their work available open access through SOURCE in order to increase world-wide readership and visibility. As of February, 2018 SOURCE has had close to 15,000 full-text downloads, and readership from 75 countries and 245 institutions of higher education and government.
Sheridan faculty librarians are also working closely with professors to help them identify and integrate open educational resources (OER) such as open textbooks and readings into their curriculum. The Library’s service eCOR gives faculty the ability to build custom course readings. The Research & Scholarly Engagement Librarian provides consultations and workshops for those interested in making their work available through open access publishing. The Library hosts events during Open Access Week and Open Education Week and promotes education and awareness throughout the year on open access.
